What is deferred case in legal terms?

I got a ticket for selling alcohol in oklahoma in 2004. I paid the fine and other formalities. Now i want it to be taken off from the records. How can I do?. When I called the oklahoma courts they said it is deferred caseWhat is deferred case in legal terms?
I don't know the legal wording but it goes a little something like this. For instance i steal some candy from a store,instead gaetting the two years in jail the judge can defer the case say for a year,an in that yaers time if you keep your nose clean,meaning no more trouble with the law that said case will be swept under the rug.Please don't take my words as gosple look it up.
