Is this even a legal case?

Someone made a fake profile of me and was ';dating'; a girl. The girl found out the person. The person faking me allegedly got money from this girl. However she did not make the check out to him, she made it out to a friend of his. Now she is talking about pressing charges on this person if he doesn't pay up. Does she even have a case? She has ims with person. Phone number and somewhat on location. Can she really do anything or is she bluffing this person out?Is this even a legal case?
Why do you even care?

If she knows the ';fake'; you is NOT really you then you should just walk away and let them sort it out.Is this even a legal case?
This could be considered wire fraud. Misrepresenting themselves to be someone else and getting money under false pretenses.

It's just very difficult to get a conviction.
Yes this is a legal case with legal bearing. For one thing, he impersonated someone else - YOU - to avoid detection. He knew he was going to defraud this girl of money, and he did so. Good luck to her and hope they throw the book at him !
What was the money supposed to be for?

The guy doing the faking could be part of a conspiracy to defraud (where the other conspirator is the ';friend of his';).

Yes, if they received money for something they said they were going to do and they don't do it and they don't refund it ... we call that stealing. In this case, they achieved the theft through fraud.

No idea how much money we're talking about or whether you know either of the two guys - but she was certainly legally wronged.
