I'm currently involved in a lawsuit. I want to do research on my own attorney as well as those of the other parties involved. Does anyone know how I can get this information? Ideally, I would like to find records of previous cases that the attorneys have handled and review them. Is there a public records office or something I can go to in order to obtain this info?In legal matter, want to check on lawyer cases if possible?
As a practical matter, you should see if your state has a computerized database - in New York, it's called the e-court system. If your state has such a system, you may be able to search various parts of the system (open and closed cases) for your attorney's name. You can also look on PACER in your federal court district.
However: a caveat: there is no uniform database covering all U.S. Courts. The various states have their own systems (and some don't index on attorney name at all) - and the federal system is even more difficult to search: you'd have to look on PACER in each U.S. District or Appellate Circuit...and then again in the U.S. Supreme Court.
There are services that try to track attorney performance, but none are perfect. The best I've seen is martindale www.martindale.com - which is now part of Lexis/Nexis.In legal matter, want to check on lawyer cases if possible?
Go to versuslaw.com it is really good but you have to pay a monthly membership. It's worth the price though.
